Windows 11

The load of fucking bullshit that 11 brings are the requirements. There is no fucking need that my PC needs to have Coffee Lake or newer just to run Windows 11 which is essentially a reskinned version of 10. I am not going to go out and purchase Windows 11 for $3000 especially in this chip crisis. T...

Nvidia Dropping Windows 7 Support

AMD also announced some graphics cards moving into their legacy cards and also announced that they will no longer make any new drivers for Win7.

It's another XP to Vista situation guys. Many computers still don't have TPM modules and even then many computers still have hard drives and 4GB of ram. Companies will do another "Windows 11 Capabalel!!!!!!11!" when in reality that system is an HP Stream from 2013 with a hard drive, ancie...

Windows 11

After playing around with it, this is what I think. Windows 11 is a combo of macOS and Android. Both of them joined and created some orgy creation. Everything is just.. BIG. I don't know why. Taskbar, explorer, everything, its just... big. Windows 11 made me feel something about 10. After seeing 11,...

The incompatibility is due to the TPM module. You can still install it without that, just using DISM.

Anyone else able to get to msfn.org? Seems like their site is down.

Ideas on putting the chains on Windows 10

10 is definitely the least user friendly OS but I would like to know.

How do you make 10 run decent? Serious answers please.

As well as that, there is no point in using an older version of 10. They are all the same, anyway.

Forced Upgrades & Microsoft Coercion: How it becomes a battle

Comfortably, you can use 1809, 1903, 1909, 2004, 20H2. 1803 and older are getting sketchy, since .NET 4.8 is not included and devs are soon to move over to .NET 5.0 I would assume. Many programs are already .NET 4.7.2 required, meaning you can't use 1507 or 1511. 1607+ supports .NET 4.8, which is ni...

Forced Upgrades & Microsoft Coercion: How it becomes a battle

The main issue about forced upgrades is that when you try to escape, you can't.

Disabling updates on 10 just make you stuck in a weird place, because so many versions are released so often that you are bound to find .NET leaving you, and some programs just stop working over time.

Forced Upgrades & Microsoft Coercion: How it becomes a battle

One thing I can say is as far as length of support goes, many companies are the same way, so I wouldn't put all the blame on Microsoft. Consumer builds (Home, Pro) of Win10 get 18 months of support, so 1.5 years. Enterprise builds (Ent, Edu) of Win10 get 30 months of support (xxH2 releases), so arou...

Windows 8.1 updated to 2021-05 + .NET 4.7.2 & 4.8

One thing I noticed is that it also updated the NVMe driver to a more later version.

Win8, 8.1, 1507, 1511 all say NVMe drives as "NVMe Samsung SSD 970" for me, but on this updated iso, it says the actual name and model of my SSD "Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus 250GB". Cool!

Windows 8.1 updated to 2021-05 + .NET 4.7.2 & 4.8

Hello. Yesterday I was going to try out 8.1 on my PC so I wanted to make a fully updated Windows 8.1 ISO using NTLite, which also added .NET 4.8 to the mix. Here it is, fully updated to 2021-05 + .NET 4.7.2 & 4.8. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aEW71YhWBGC4tdjZ1WXiwYxZLXvIkONt/view?usp=sharing

I might make a system image of 7 right now then upgrade to 8.1. Even on Basic theme, I still have problems where programs get their FPS limited to 45ish. This happens when there are 2 monitors added. I've had pretty good experiences with 8.1 on my PC, but mainly I just don't like installing 3rd part...

I do have to say though, the enablement packages being feature updates more often on my 10 systems is really refreshing. I reinstall less often and my tweaks to make 10 decent don't get undone. Now there is usually only one update a year that undoes all of it, but if I want to avoid that I can use L...

The few problems I have on 7 are that whenever I alt tab to anything and go back in to the game, my game FPS is around 10-25 FPS for a few seconds then it goes back up to 60. This also happens when I get that "You need to restart to install updates" pop up. I know its 100% a Discord issue ...

So I'm moving that Precison system to 2012 R2, and I suddenly felt something. When I opened the start menu, it had GPU drivers so I saw the fluent of 10. Honestly, in my opinion, I kind of prefer the more intense blur on 1803+. It suddenly made me feel something. How useful is LTSC 2019? If its not ...

I agree, the more that use it = the longer it will live. The only real reasons I use 7 is not because of itself, because of what it existed through. 7 is what people used through the early 2010s which is my favourite time period. Thats mainly why I use it right now.

I guess it just depends on what view you look at. Definitely every device counts, but a counterclaim to that is if the person wants a longevity PC (something they can install, get updates for a while and features for the next 10+ years) Windows 10, 8.1 or Linux would obviously be a better choice. I ...

Linux wins in stability, but it it's kinda ehh for the others. Responsiveness depends on the desktop environment, so it depends. I actually tried that on one of my Xeon machines, still had the same issue. It has to do with something of how Discord uses DWM. I wonder if Discord is trying to limit Aero FPS to improve its own FPS.

So recently I have been looking to upgrade and get a whole new PC or a new GPU. Since the market is a disaster right now it seems like my options are most likely to either wait a while or get a prebuilt. I would be turning my old desktop into a server (probably have it run some version of server). M...

I'm going to try out that fully-updated W7 iso now. I may not be able to use aero transparency (which i like!) but I will try it. Mentally my issue is that almost everyone i know uses 10, so my gut wants me to be in the same boat as them, but mentally I don't want to.

So I installed that custom Windows 8.0 iso I found on the forums and it seems to run very well. It has more modern features that I like and still gives off the Windows 7 vibes. Ive been planning to go to Ryzen 5000 someday and to upgrade to a 1080 Ti, so it's nice for those to be good options still....
