Steam on Windows 7/8
The main reason I'm making this thread now instead of later is to stop the rumor that Steam will immediately stop working on 7/8 on January 1st, 2024. We've seen the exact same wording with XP, but you still can (kinda) use the client all these years later. It won't immediately break, it will slowly...

Java 8 (and 17) on XP
It's not the easiest or the best method, but it's the one I like to use. I use AdoptOpenJDK, and up to release 8u242 works. However you will need to mod it. For XP x64: https://github.com/AdoptOpenJDK/openjdk8-binaries/releases/download/jdk8u242-b08/OpenJDK8U-jre_x64_windows_hotspot_8u242b08.msi For...

Minecraft on HD 4000 (and 4600(?)) under Windows XP
I'm going to be more straight to the point here since I know more about the issue. Rendering menus(?) causes Minecraft's performance to just die with the HD 4000. I've tried it on both my T430, and a 3770K desktop, and both have this issue. I'm not quite sure what version of graphics driver I used (...

Uh the D3D9.dll probably just straight up doesn't work. Also this is not a DirectX error, it's a user32.dll issue.

MSFN Is Down And Possible Dead (latest information)
Considering the other parts of the site are up, an issue might have happened and they could be waiting on the actual owner to notice and fix it.
I actually had a server during most of Eclipse's downtime, but nobody knew how to set it up.

Yeah that would be what I'd expect from WineD3D, but it is a interesting workaround. The latest extended kernel appears to have fixed OpenGL with x64 applications on AMD (looks to be a similar issue if you forgot), so I'm guessing fixes could be coming for x86 as well.

Browser useragent change question
If you're using an old version, general.useragent.override should work, otherwise just use an extension.
However websites can track a false useragent, but faking the same family of browser and version should be fine.

AI is the future and why anti-AI rhetoric is deeply flawed
One of the things I've been thinking about is that the Windows 7 "neo-luddites" embrace AI, yet the normies, "the updooters" , seem to be the ones that are most against AI. A "neo-luddite" on this forum even used ChatGPT to suggest a laptop to get for Windows 7 , help b...

RANT: The Iphone 6 generation is the best, but also the worst Iphone generation ever
First the iPhone 5s is the first 64 bit iPhone. The iPhone 6 (not 6s) was only a slight performance improvement. The massive leap came with the iPhone 6s. I have an iPhone SE myself, but I rarely use it. It had its battery replaced not too long ago. It's currently on 14.5.1, I had it there for the u...

Investigation into Vista USB 3 drivers
To get a modern system running, you'll need USB 3 drivers, whether it be Intel or AMD. This post goes over three main drivers that exist for Vista. This won't go over USB chips made by ASMedia, VIA, etc as that is out of the scope of this. 1: MDL universal XHCI stack This is the preferred USB driver...

These are some older versions of Steam for whatever purpose you may need. They're somewhat scattered, with a bunch of empty spots, but it's the best that I know of.

This is useful if you sometimes have a spotty connection and want a video to just be buffered. It only works for Firefox though. This is an additional post, there are three major differences between my post and the old post that I'd like to list here before we get to the commands. I think there is no use for EWFTool. It appears to be a write caching program, which Windows can do anyways. I don't have any write caching tweaks ...

This is basically a successor to this post . Before you install Windows, set your computer to AHCI mode. Unless your computer is very old or very locked down, the option should be somewhere in the BIOS. This makes the SATA controller function like an actual SATA controller and is much faster for SSD...

You might read the title and think doesn't this already exist? Well yes, but I found that now with the x86 portion of the extended kernel being so good, you can use the x86 files as well. So I made a modified setup that adds the x86 files. It's attached to this post. Apparently you can use it to get...
