While testing in a VM, i had to use the -noreactlogin argument. The Steam library itself works just fine though.

You can add the folders into My Computer on Windows 7 via Winaero Tweaker. You can remove the external devices from the navigation pane in Windows 10 with Winaero Tweaker, but that only removes it for 64-bit, so you'll really want to find the post from Winaero Tweaker, and apply that for Wow6432Node...

Getting rid of Program Compatibility Assistant

An somewhat easier (or at least less complicated) way is to when you're in Resource Hacker, expand Version Info, right click on any of the entries that appear in there, and simply delete them, instead of blanking them out.
This replaces steps 4 to 8
