If W7 laggy try to do following:
1. Run services.msc
2. Disable all Microsoft .NET Framework services

Old good XP x64. I still have backups and have XP as virtual machine for my printer (drivers for XP only).

I migrated from XP x64 to W10 (due to new laptop) in 2015 and in 2020 switched back to W7 SP2.
I'm still using XP & Vista on older laptops (there are no better OS than XP-W7).
