Cant switch from Integrated graphics to GPU
Yes, another problem, this time with the GPU.
So after installing all the drivers i noticed that the Laptop was still running on the Integrated Graphics (Intel HD 530) and not the built in GPU (Nvidia GeForce GTX 970m)
Disabling the Integrated Graphics or uninstalling the Integrated Graphics driver would only result in a blank screen, forcing me to hard reset the system.
Upon rebooting the Standard VGA Windows driver would be loaded.
Reinstalling or updating the Nvidia driver wouldnt do anything either and even if i chose my GPU as my preferred graphics adapter, it still wouldnt do anything.
Strangely enough the Nvidia control panel wouldnt start at all and instantly crash if the integrated graphics are disabled.
Installing only the Nvidia driver wouldnt work at all as it would show me an error saying that a intel HD driver needs to be installed first.
Please Help!
Heres a screenshot of what the Nvida control panel show me:

Check your BIOS - you normally change between GPU's in there. There should be an intergrated graphics on/off option.
EDIT: I only just noticed the black screen when you disable it part - the card might be dead? If it's a physical card you can remove, then possibly try it in a different system to see if it works.

well, its a laptop so that might me a bit tricky to manage.MelonicOverlord wrote: ↑11 Jun 2021, 20:25 Check your BIOS - you normally change between GPU's in there. There should be an intergrated graphics on/off option.

And besides, if the card would be dead device manager and the nvidia driver installer would beat the shit out of me, which they luckly didnt.
I bought this laptop off ebay and the seller assured me that the laptop works fine, he didnt seem to be suspicious in any way.

The one provided my MSI and the latest from Nvidias website.
Im gonna go into the BIOS and send a picture of it so you can see which options i have there to enable and disable related to CPU and GPU.

What you're experiencing is Optimus, the Intel HD GPU renders the display and 2D, while the GPU kicks in on demanding 3D tasks.

That kinda sounds like a good thing tbh
Never heard of it myself, but would've thought it would allow faster rendering of everything.

It's why I jumped from my 4720HQ & 970m MSI to my 8770W.

Nah, it slows everything by around 15% or so. On top of the already cut down GPU.MelonicOverlord wrote: ↑12 Jun 2021, 06:41That kinda sounds like a good thing tbh

Kinda...
Using MSI dragon center you can choose wether you want an application do use your GPU or integrated graphics, however you need to do it manually for every single program.

If I'm not mistaken, the dGPU on some laptops actually acts as a sort of accelerator. Meaning the iGPU renders everything on-screen, but the dGPU switches on intelligently depending on workload.
tl;dr. Intel and NoVideo don't want you to be able to choose one or the other. They act as one.

yes, but you can determine in the nvidia control panel which programs you want to use the dGPU and which you want to use the iGPU.docR wrote: ↑12 Jun 2021, 23:04 If I'm not mistaken, the dGPU on some laptops actually acts as a sort of accelerator. The problem is that even when you choose the dgpu, the image still needs to run through the iGPU display adapter, which is weaker most of the time, resulting in a performance loss of about 10-15%
