Windows Vista on Ryzen

This is my Ryzen PC running Vista I've currently got USB 3, Sound and Ethernet working I'm just trying to fix the constant BSOD issues I'm facing then hopefully It'll be a nice stable machine

It's great he got it working on Ryzen, but will AMD Ryzen Graphics work? They will work if this one was around the time of Ivy Bridge/very early Haswell, but if this is later, I reckon they will not.

If, somehow, more modern AMD Ryzen graphics work with Vista, then this might be the option I choose if I build a brand new laptop, that way I can dual-boot Vista, 7, 8.1, and 11, but I highly doubt it would.

I'm not sure of how to fix this, all I can really do is make a list of boards that do and don't work with Vista.

That actually would be helpful. Maybe have two lists. Boards that work with Vista OOB (Intel Ivy Bridge and earlier) and boards that work with Vista with modification to drivers.

I've been thinking, and maybe it's not the board. I was once told that it's the Ryzen USB controller that is the issue, and well, that might actually have merit. Some people have Vista working on newer Ryzen chips, where there is a different USB controller used.

I'm not entirely sure on the validity of it, but it does make sense.

I have this issue (random BSODs) with Ryzen too, and I am waiting for a fix for this issue (I hope that this fix will be at all). And also this issue is seems caused by HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer), and hal*.dll must be patched to fix this issue. And I can ask win32 to make a fix for this issue, but I can't sign up to msfn.org due to the e-mail does not arriving, and I also tried to PM he on BetaArchive, but he is not active on BA 1-2 years ago, so, anybody who signed up on msfn, can you ask win32 for doing a patch for hal*.dll (I ready even to wait for a long time, just for get Windows Vista working fine on Ryzen), but... stop, maybe fully updating Windows Vista (including Windows Server 2008 updates (also including ESU updates)) will (partially) fix Ryzen issues, like KB4493731 is partially fixed Haswell and later issues.

My laptop is HP Pavilion cw-1001ua, I have 8GB RAM, my CPU is AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, and my GPU is AMD Radeon RX Vega 8.

I don't have an account there, and I can't be bothered to make one, so I'll just answer your concerns here.

1: As far as I know, no. The only hypothesis I have is that using 7nm Ryzen could fix the issues, but I have no way of testing unless I get a 7nm Ryzen part. There's also the possibility of getting it working by downgrading your BIOS to or near the release version with a CH341A or other flasher, but that could result in a bricked board if done wrong.

6: I think someone posted something that added TRIM to Vista on MSFN some time ago, but I'm unsure about that. I do know that most modern drives have hardware TRIM, so I don't really bother with adding it. All it really does is improve performance.

Maybe there are some eMMC drivers somewhere, I could look, but I'm not sure.

I'm not entirely sure. Some people say USB 3, which could make sense, as some people have had luck with Zen 2/3 based parts, which use a slightly different USB controller than Zen 1/1+. However if that is not the case, then updated AGESA broke something with Vista.

Yes, I once tested Windows 10 1507 on Ryzen and I experienced mostly the same issues as Vista

Sounds great, however his testing may be a little flawed. I was able to run 6801, and it worked and performed very nice. However not too much ran on it. I only ran into the Vista issues with 6469, but I haven't tested many builds. I think he is relying on Vruh for results, and he has weird issues I haven't seen anywhere else.

If you're not lazy (unlike me), you should try some of the betas, start with 6519 and go up by a build until it's stable.
