I came across this video showing Windows Media Player 11 on Windows 11. I wanted to try it myself on Windows 8.1 to see if they fixed the visualization bug, and it appears that they have. There are also other extras like Windows Photo Gallery and more visualizations. The video is below if you want to try it yourself.
I would suggest sticking to WMP10+ as the context menu breaks if you apply any of them. Meaning if you go with WMP9, you can only add songs outside of your library in skin mode.
I also would suggest not using Windows Photo Gallery, it takes a second to open and breaks the edit context menu entry. Even if you replace it with WinAero Tweaker it's still broken.

If you want the WMP9 look, I recommend using this WMP12 skin instead, looks the part and works great.
