If you check for updates, just install drivers, Office updates, Silverlight, or whatever else you need that isn’t a Windows 7 specific update, then disable the update service, as no other Windows 7 updates are needed.

Q: Why does the setup have the Windows 8 bootscreen?

A: The installer is from Windows Server 2012 R2, I used it so I could convert the install.wim to a install.esd to make the ISO significantly smaller. It also makes integrating NVMe and USB 3.0 support significantly easier. If this bothers you that much, you can use Easy2Boot to boot the ISO and have the Vista bootscreen instead.

Q: I just checked Windows update, and it's missing plenty of updates, why?

A: That's because those updates include telemetry, all the updates that begin with a date on Windows update are guaranteed to have telemetry (Excluding IE updates), and the rest of the KB updates that aren't in the Updates not included.zip are likely telemetry.

Q: Is the 2016-09 ISO only updated to 2016-09?

A: Yes, and no, it includes .NET 4.8, VC++, .Net 3.5 updates to 2020-01, etc, but Windows itself has no updates after 2016-09 except for the SHA-2 update, and the SHA-2 servicing stack update.

Q: What happened the 2017-08 ISO you had before?

A: If you want Windows updated to 2017-08, grab the 2016-09 ISO, and download the 2016-10 to 2017-08 updates. It's only 12 updates that you'll need to install. If you want to update to 2017-12, before the spectre and meltdown patches, here

Privacy tweaks

Open Task Scheduler, navigate to Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows and delete the items below.

Everything under Application Experience, Autochk, and Customer Experience Improvement Program

Under Disk Diagnostic, only delete Microsoft-Windows-DiskDiagnosticDataCollector

Delete everything under Maintenance, WinSAT, and Media Center

How I made the ISO, and the files you need to replicate it. (If you don't trust me)

Using MSMG Toolkit, I integrated a bunch of updates after removing any telemetry updates on my list of updates to note that I've compiled from various sources. I also integrated .NET 4.8, IE11, RDP, and Visual C++ into the ISO. The NVMe hotfixes are in update folder 1. I then used NTLite to integrate universal USB 3 drivers from MDL into the install.wim. I then placed the install.wim into a Windows Server 2012 R2 ISO (Should also work fine with a 8.1 ISO), replacing the Server install.wim with the modified Windows 7 install.wim. I modified the boot.wim to look like the Windows 7 boot.wim with ImageX and resource hacker, but this step is optional.

Updates already in ISO (Up to 2016-09). Numbered 1-4. 1 gets integrated first, then 2 and so on.

Security only updates from 2016-10 to 2020-01. They're split into six .7z files, you can integrate to whatever point you want to integrate to, or you could pile all of them together and integrate them for a 2020-01 ISO.

This ISO is provided without a license key or any activation, meaning it is not an illegal source of Windows. The users must have their own license key to activate Windows.

Two ISO releases updated to different points, 2016-09 and 2020-01, had .Net 4.8, IE11, Visual C++, NVMe drivers, generic USB 3 drivers, and more integrated and no removed components. Also much smaller and fits on a DVD

Remake v2 (January 17th, 2021):

Actually added USB 3 drivers to Home Premium and Ultimate editions, integrated a few missing updates into the ISOs using NTLite, and disabled some features by default, such as Gadgets, WMP, XPS Viewer, and more. Slightly bigger than v1, but still easily fits on a DVD

Yes, but through extended testing, I've found it's somewhat broken

I don't think it's open-source as much as i wish it to be the case.

There is one update that patches a exploit, but contains telemetry, so it wasn't included in the ISO, but the update should be in the updates not included zip

Giving credit where credit it due, this install is awesome. Thank you for putting this install together, it worked right out of the box. I've messed around with other installs, tried to hunt down drivers to NTLite my own, and have failed. Your install has the correct USB 3.1 and NVME support I needed to installed Windows 7 onto my MSI z490 Gaming Carbon WiFi motherboard, with my i9-10850K CPU, and Sabrent 1tb NVME SSD. The USB works right at install and throughout, and the installer saw my NVME SSD. Excellent!

Some things to note for other users:
1). The Realtek sound driver that comes with the MSI z490 board does not work. It won't accept the Windows 7 OS. I got around this by installing instead the Realtek sound driver for the older MSI x99 motherboard and it accepts the Windows 7 install and runs perfectly on the z490. It is to be expected to have to hunt down older drivers to support some elements of the newer systems. Funny how that works.

2). As referenced before in other places, the new z490 Ethernet and WiFi drivers will not accept Windows 7. Their installers just reject the OS. So you'll have to install a legacy WiFi/Ethernet card if you wish to have internet access on Windows 7. I'm running dual boot, so I don't care. I just needed Win 7 for my legacy software that I refuse to upgrade/purchase for Win 10.

2). As indicated in this creator's article, the Windows 7 install is NOT activated and requires the user's license that one should already have on hand to activate the install. This is actually a good thing.

ALC 1220 is somewhat old, which is good for 7. Surprised they haven't made a successor.

I don't think the Intel WiFi has drivers, but the LAN does. Don't remember where I got the drivers below, but they should work.

Once again thank you for this great ISO. However I still have a problem with the install. I fixed the intelide.sys problem when initially booting the install USB (I think it was a boot order problem). And I got to install windows 7 on my drive. However when I reach the dual boot screen and choose windows 7 I get a similar error stating that spaceport.sys is missing or corrupted. I did some digging into the files and have verified that spaceport.sys does indeed exist in the windows 7 install and both the startup repair option and sfc /scannow return nothing. I will keep trying some things but was just wondering if you guys have any ideas.

Uhhh... Possibly by accident. I will start over with the vanilla ISO and check back with results.

Is the MS NVME driver work correctly with Windows 7 on VMware??? Because there were known issue that locks on Starting Windows phase after installation on NVME.

Well unfortunately, it didnt work due to the VMware NVME driver required 8.1 or later. So that means i have to do use Windows 7 on VMware NVME through a disk migration and the hotfix.

i dont have a msi or a asus board or any amd grahpics chips so this wont really help me at all

It's around/before some common points people update to, 2017-08 and 2017-12 are some I've seen, so if anyone wanted those, they don't need to make another ISO. I used to use the 2016-09 ISO.

If I remember correctly, it was just going to be 2017-08 and 2020-01, but an accident in integrating the updates created the 2016-09 ISO.

You don't explicitly need an MSI or ASUS board, they're just generally recommended instead. If you have a different board, it's worth a shot.

Also, Nvidia cards generally work better than AMD ones.
