It's OneNote. On attempting to launch it, it throws an error like this: [don't know the exact message displayed]
"The program cannot start because the Desktop Experience Service is not installed."

Office 2007 Enterprise all the way :3 2010 is a close second for me. Access/Outlook were improved in 2010, but I preferred the interface and activation method otherwise in 2007.

So for me in order of greatest to worse:

-Office 2007
-Office 2010
-Office 2003
-Office 2016
-Office 2013
.......................
I almost feel this doesn't even deserve a mention, but 365 is descended from the ninth circle from Hell.

I'm still a little ambivalent about 2007/2010. I just love the shinier color palette found in 2007. I also like how I don't need mstoolkit to crack it either. The 'Blue' edition of Enterprise is completely key-less. Keys can be entered offline too. I just run the standalone SP3 updater after installation.

2013 was really the ugly duckling of the bunch. 2016 had a darker theme that could be enabled. It's been years since I've touched either though. I did have the misfortune of using 365 fairly recently for a college class though. Rather not repeat that expenditure.

Office 2007 and 2010. Nothing else.

The best looking one I consider to be....the technical preview build of Office 2010.

MD5/SHA1? I use the VLK Enterprise version of 2007 that works with the code starting with 'KGFVY'

2003 was probably my favorite Office. I just never liked the Ribbon interface. It wasn't a case of not being used to it, I used 2007 before 2003. The normal menu bar was just so much easier to use. I don't have much of a reason to use Office though, all I do is print labels with Word & that's about it.

I too prefer 2007's activation method, but 2010's dark theme looks better than 2007's on Vista IMO, and that's what is my default theme on my Office 2010 install on my Vista.

I honestly think 2010 is honestly the best version of office, activation issues aside. It got a refined ribbon UI and works well on anything from XP-10. As for versions without the ribbon interface, 2003 comes out on top imo, especially if paired with XP.

2002 if you're unwilling to sift through billions of dead VLKs to find one that works.
Only dislike is the icons on non 9x/me systems, they feel "off", but the ui remindes me less of a .net4 default then 2003 (integrates better to most support OS, but 2003 looks good for xp/2003)

What sort of compatibility issues if I may ask? The activation system is certainly more elegant. Appearance... Depends imo. I think the default blue theme looks prettier than 2010's default white, as does the silver theme. The dark theme I feel is a bit tidier in 2010 though, which is what I always default to anyway. Formatting options in the paste context menu are nice.... Kinda do like 2007's smaller hamburger menu and orb, however.

Curious how we've switched places with me on 2010 and you on 2007

At first I didn't like the 2007 dark theme, but now that I'm trying it again, I think I like it better, because it has more detail and aero styling in it.

The compatibility issues are with Linux Wine and XP x64. Although I'm probably never going to use Office with Linux and only have one XP x64 machine, I like having the capability.

It's a bit flashier, yeah. Bit rougher and less smooth around the edges though... idk I go back and forth about it. I very well may switch back, but so far I'm satisfied. Yeah, with WINE if you use the sku from your 2017 installer or Enterprise Blue, no activation service at all. Works real well on Linux.

R3n's opinion is usually somewhat inconsistent/fluctuating with these things tbh, he seems to change views to whatever he's using at the time it seems... same though my soft bunbun babe *snuggles* ><

Also yeah I default to light theme usually and 2007's blue is amazing (so is the orb, 2010's is one type of colour even if I like orange lol). Wish R3n would consider devuan linux in future though, old Windows is aesthetically more pleasing but linux basics aren't hard if an idiot like me knows it :p

It´s funny how your entire explanations on why which Office is the best are only based on the design. I mean I can understand that, but funktionality is kind of more important, isn´t it? Sure, there are not many differences between 2007 and 2010, but it´s still funny :D

For me personally Microsoft Office 2007 is the best Office Suite.
It does everything you need and nothing else.
Easy to Activate and install, beautiful and clean UI, tons of features which became essential in newer releases and just a overall great experience.
It introduced tons of new features and laid a standard for newer releases and introduced a whole new UI thats much more clear and more work oriented.
It took me only minutes to get familiar with the settings and features (unlike in older versions).
It also features a wide compatibility range reaching from Windows XP SP2 to the latest version of Windows 10.
Yes in Windows 8.x and 10 the UI looks kinda unfitting, but that's your fault if you are using Windows 10.

Well after revisiting 2010 again after years of using 2007, I've returned to 2007 once more.

2010 is a fine product, but something about the interface did feel off to me. The full screen file menu as opposed to a small hamburger menu for one. Almost felt like a slight prelude to Windows 8? heh. The fogged glass was a little strange. Colors were less bold and UI elements didn't stand out as much. All rather minor, I did enjoy using it. I guess one could say 2007 was too noisy looking though, so I'll call this one a tie. Where 2010 did shine, however, was the inclusion of the Ribbon UI for lesser used apps in the suite. Access, chiefly. (this program gives me PTSD)

What I didn't enjoy was how uninstalling it broke my Acrobat installation, also left some residual traces post-install. This in turn effed up Explorer. Relatively easy fix, but I was pretty pissed about it ngl. The activation service is somewhat of a bother too, and this is really the big one for me. There's SKUs of 2007 that are entirely keyless, others don't even keep count of how many times the key has been used. There's no calling home either. Activating 2010, even by legitimate means is a bit of a pain. It isn't awful, it just requires a bit more legwork. "document is in office compatibility mode" was bothersome too, benign as it was.

I could go on to say how theres rogue updates that will nag you about the impending doom for your life and safety for continuing to use Office 2010 (in Microsoft's words), but if I were to go there the same would apply to Windows 7. Sooo....

tl;dr - 2010 is better and worse at the same time. Where 2007 lacks is made up for by the fact that it annoys me less and looks better =D

+brownie point - installing 2007 undr WINE is easy as pie. 2010 will make you want to die

Oh yeah, there was that update a while back for MS Office 2010 that broke XP x86 systems. Kind of amusing since they're supposed to be under a support policy, given MS is geared typically to enterprise users.
