Latest working Visual C++ 2015-2019 runtime for XP/2003

Unread post by K4sum1 »

I was working on a post about getting newer versions of Audacity to work on XP, however I encountered a problem. It's hard to find a working VC++ 2015-2019 runtime for XP. Audacity and other programs won't launch without it.

After some research, I have found the newest working runtime. There may be a slightly newer runtime that still works, however I can't be bothered to look for it for basically no gain.

Microsoft lists 14.27.29114.0 as the latest version that officially supports XP, however I can't find any download links for it. The latest that I can find that unofficially works is 14.28.29325.2, which is included in the January 2021 release of the Visual C++ All in One pack by TechPowerUp. To download the older release, you have to click show older versions under the latest download, and find the January 2021 release. You can use the batch file to install them all, or click the .exe for the specific one.

Newer releases install, however give a CloseThreadpoolWait error when trying to use a program that requires VC++ 2015-2019. Even newer releases don't install the necessary .dlls.

It looks like with NNN4NT5 (spoof to W7) we are able to install latest VC++ 2015-2022 runtimes (OCAPI installed on XP x64).

Gosh ... I'm still using 2.1.0 on my old system as I've found the newer versions unstable - it suits my needs - I guess.

Thank you; K4sum1 and luk3Z!

Will follow this thread and on a side note - I'm glad to see the forum is picking up :)
