Windows Vista Ultimate x64 2020.01 (6003) + Serv2008 Updates

Have a custom Windows ISO you want to share? This is the place.
Note: Do not provide ISOs that are 'pre-cracked' or found to contain malware.

Windows Vista Ultimate x64 2020.01 (6003) + Serv2008 Updates

Unread post by docR »

This image was created by a friend before the Vista Extended Kernel project materialized in attempt to slimplify the process of updating Windows Vista to a later patch level. We never did decide on a place to share it, however I feel this community is an obvious match.
Note however that going beyond a 2017.04 patch level for extended kernel use is unlikely to work. Nevertheless I felt compelled to share this ISO for archival purposes.

Curious to try pure vanilla Vista on Build 6003 without sifting though offline updates or resorting to Server 2008? Look no further!

Some things to note about the image:

~It isn't multi edition, so Ultimate is the only installable option. There are also no keys included nor other means to illegally circumvent activation, so you'll need your own key to activate it once installed. The user account creation phase of the installation is also skipped and will boot to a pre-created account.

~The image is too large to fit onto a DVD-ROM, at just over 6 GB. Creating a bootable USB via Rufus with an 8+ GB USB drive is recommended.

~All post 2017.04 Server 2008 updates through January 2020 are included, with the exception of Ultimate Extras which must be installed manually. An offline update repository can be found here should the Windows Update client fail to connect: https://msfn.org/board/topic/181756-windows-vista-update-repository-until-april-2017/

Well there was supposed to be an Easter Egg. The account owner was supposed to say Registered to United States Postal Service as a tribute to our friend, winclient5270 8-)

Unfortunately that didn't quite work as intended.

Would like an edit without the pre-created account.

Also, if this used vLite, how did you make an ISO larger than 4GB?

Sorry, but we're not going back to that. Especially with there being an image with Win32's extended kernel already slipstreamed.

As for the image size. He used a few tools to get this done, I can't recall what he did in detail. It was somewhat of a hodgepodge. I'll ask him to message you on Discord for deets about how he created it.

That´s because Mega does not support many older browsers. Have you tried Mypal or New Moon?

Yeah, you need a semi-modern browser for MEGA. Really perplexes me why so many people are still on say, Firefox 48 or 52 when Roytam1 and Fedor2 are here on this board sharing their UXP backports.

To be honest, UXP is kinda trash. I'd like to see Roytam1 or someone try making a Waterfox competitor using the 45 ESR or 48 codebase.

At the cost of further derailment the thread, that would be an awful lot of work. 45ESR renders things worse than UXP, so that would need to be modernized, as well as the usual "designing an entire browser from scratch-ish when you're already maintaining, building, and supporting 400 zillion browser binaries weekly" stuff.

Firefox slowly got slower and slower with every release until like v50, where everything got bad.

This thread goes more into detail.
