Latest Hardware to support Windows Vista (not Intel)

If you're not a gamer, an Ivy Bridge Thinkpad would be a good investment. I'd go with any of the Sandy/Ivy Bridge Thinkpads/Dell Latitudes/HP Elitebooks or Probooks if buying a good laptop for use with Vista/XP. I don't game much (but will try a few rounds of Minecraft later) but do virtualization ...

Latest Hardware to support Windows Vista (not Intel)

Well, the 2013 Acer Aspire E1-531 that I was using with Windows Vista might be starting to hit the fan. Was doing good, shut it down, then restarted it as I realized I forgot to copy down driver info from a few drivers (was going to install Vista to a 1TB HDD instead and wanted to integrate a few d...

eMMCdrive driver for Windows XP/Vista/7

Some dumb shit I wanna try would be to install Windows 7 on portable drive, then try forcing it to use the SD driver for the eMMC drive using device manager.

What CPU?
It appears to be an AMD Radeon A6-9220e with 5 compute cores 2C+3G 1.60 GHz (Full name from Windows 7 Computer Properties: AMD A6-9220e RADEON R4 5 COMPUTE CORES 2C+3G 1.60 GHz)
Maybe? The CPU is from 2017, but uses a older architecture. I'll need to do some more research later.

I'd have to experiment a bit, but it might be 2015 LTSB, 2016 LTSB, or 200X.

Interesting. Could I modify an AMD Graphics driver that supports both Vista and 7 to work on my Acer Aspire A315-21 that has AMD Radeon R4 Stoney Ridge? This processor does support 7 and 8.1 as I have both installed as a multi-boot alongside the latest Windows 10 build (just in case). If that won't...

Interesting. Per this thread https://msfn.org/board/topic/177576-compatible-hardware-with-windows-vista/ it appears to say that all models of AMD Ryzen Summit Ridge should be supported and that Raven Ridge had yet to be tested. Anyone with the Ryzen Summit Ridge processor try Vista? Did you get Aer...

Odd issue with Waterfox G3 and cookies.

So, I've been using Waterfox G3 for the past little while, and it doesn't like some cookies from various sites. I allow all cookies, excluding third party, and use uMatrix to block the first cookie parties, only allowing them when they're needed. This worked fine in the early days of Waterfox G3, bu...

So if you wanna avoid Intel, there's AMD FX, but there's no FX patch for Vista, so you're better off with 7 in this scenario. Next up the list is AMD Ryzen, and you got two options for this. You can pray that your X370 board ships on an old BIOS, or grab a B550/X570 board and hope your network adap...

Why not just make a matrix client that supports legacy windows? The protocol is open, so anyone can make their own client. I hate to enter the thread on a downer, however, the trouble is... you could say all of this, but no one is going to help if you don't have any existing codebase to work with, already. are you planning on actually organizing a team to do any of this? or is this just another "cool mockups and ideas" thread? I would like to organize a team, but since it's gonna basically be volunteer work for something that will/will soon be open source, I don't think I could do too much.

I did imply that. One of the drafts mentioned the web client potentially working on Firefox 38 and Chrome 48, and mentioned the light client potentially working on 2k and 9x with KernelEx.

Though lower is always better.

I posted this on r/discordapp, and it didn't work out too well. I've had this idea for a while, long before the current redesign. I know there's plenty of alternatives, but most of them aren't as easy to use or work as well as Discord. I would like to change this. I have the means to host a Discord ...

The few problems I have on 7 are that whenever I alt tab to anything and go back in to the game, my game FPS is around 10-25 FPS for a few seconds then it goes back up to 60. This also happens when I get that "You need to restart to install updates" pop up. I know its 100% a Discord issue...

Windows Vista vs. Windows 7 speed

There's a reason it seems to like RAM more than 7: it was built more on the 'unused RAM is wasted RAM' philosophy which is certainly feasible on higher end devices especially now, though at the time Vista came out most people were stuck on 768MB/1GB single core econoboxes and couldn't make much use...

Responsiveness, compatibility, stability. Features I am fine losing. I mainly want the first three. Linux wins in stability, but it it's kinda ehh for the others. Responsiveness depends on the desktop environment, so it depends. Compatibility is alright if you properly setup Wine/Proton, but there'...
