r3dfox, modern Firefox for Windows 7!
r3dfox is release branch Firefox made to work on Windows 7/8. Also with limited compatibility for XP using OCAPI and Vista using the extended kernel. Main download: https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/releases Alternative download: https://sourceforge.net/projects/r3dfox/files/ If you run in...

Finding the last XP compatible versions of Sysinternals Suite programs
I grabbed Process Explorer to check something, and I noticed the listed minimum Windows version is 8.1. For programs, I often like to grab the last XP compatible versions within reason. (excluding like browsers and such) So I decided to try looking for the last XP compatible version. I stumbled upon...

AI is the future and why anti-AI rhetoric is deeply flawed
I was discussing AI with someone and the topic came up. I thought of an interesting idea I would like to add. This adds on top of the last point. I don't think you can fully replace people with AI and still have a good product just yet. However there will come a time where AI far succeeds any human....

So latest beta has Chromium 109 now, and it's also for Windows 7 too. They are still doing stuff for Windows 7 after the end of support.

So 16 days after the end of support and there's nothing broken as of yet. The latest January client still works. We got a little further than XP/Vista already.

Trying to use Wireguard VPN with firewall (Specifically Comodo)
With Windscribe and Wireguard, it bypasses Comodo Firewall. From what I can tell the firewall driver doesn't apply to the Wireguard VPN device. I think I would have to edit the Comodo inf to let it apply to Wireguard, but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm including the firewall driver from 8.4.0.5165...

How do I connect to IKEv2 VPN using Windows Server (2008 R2 and later)?
This is something someone using Windows Server as a workstation might want to do, but I can't find anything helpful about it. Everything I've found is either very confusing or is about having it act as a VPN server instead of just being a client. If anyone knows what needs to be installed or done to...

Getting rid of Program Compatibility Assistant
This is a bit of a different compatibility patch. Instead of getting a newer application working on an older OS, we're getting an older application working on a newer OS. Thanks to Jevil7452 for finding this. To do this, you need Resource Hacker Step 1: Open the application in Resource Hacker Step 2...

Errors trying to compile LineageOS 17.1 with updated clang (and other patches) for the XZ2 Compact
This has been resolved. More info here . This is a bit of a different one to the usual Windows posts here. I have a big interest into Android too, optimizing it and using the objectively superior older versions. I would like to hopefully get 15.1 or even 14.1 running on this phone, however that will...

Need help with r3dfox
I've been working on Firefox backported to Windows 7 again, and I have it running, however it's not optimal. It has some flaws like the caption bar always being the Windows 10 one regardless of operating system version. There was a lot of stuff stripped out relating to the 7 caption bar and with how...

XP bootscreen on Windows 10
This is more of a curiosity than a real thing. It should be possible with graphicsmodedisabled 1 and editing the Vista fallback, however there may be a XP bootscreen hidden inside 10 that appears in very rare circumstances. I've only found two references to this ever happening. First was the result ...

Nvidia 2000 series USB Type C Port Policy Controller driver for Windows 7/8
To be honest I really don't know what this does, so this is just a null driver, meaning it doesn't really do anything other than make it not show as an unknown device. I've configured it for the device ID of my 2080 Ti. Yours could be different. If so, edit the inf to reflect. Also on Windows 8.x yo...

Microsoft Office 2013 installer with updates to 2023 EOS.
There are a couple things to note: There are two updates not integrated, they must be installed separately. They are msohevi-x-none.msp and Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime. Office 2013 requires online activation or KMS activation. If you prefer a fully offline key only activation, I reco...

Windows 8.1 updated to 2020-01 and 2016-09
I always recommend to install my ISOs in MBR. But when I try to do it from a USB (8.1, 64bit, updated to 2020), on a partition, it doesn't let me install saying it has to be in GPT. Booting from said USB in non-UEFI is just a smiley face :( Try Rufus 2.18p and make sure it's set to MBR for legacy.

This ISO below should just work on that type of hardware. (As long as you follow the note until I have a meaningful enough change to make beta 2 exist.)

You can still use 1.2. Get the latest version, install it, delete the updater exe, and there you go.

Best VLC version for stable, skip free FLAC playback
I've found modern VLC to not like FLAC files for some reason. There will be random delays or skips. This appears to have been fixed at some point between 3.0.19 and 3.0.20, but got unfixed in release 3.0.20. I found this nightly in-between version to be nice and stable with no issues for me. Audio i...

I say this as someone who just a few months ago listened to music with an iPod Video 5.5 inside a iPod Classic 6 shell with an iFlash Solo with a 256GB SD card. Also this post won't go into streaming, since if you're considering an iPod, you need a local music collection. You also should keep all yo...

I've wanted to have glxgears on Windows, but there exists no compiled versions of it. So I went and compiled it myself. https://github.com/K4sum1/windows-glxgears-built/releases/tag/1.0 This works on Windows XP and later, maybe 2000, not sure. It was built with Visual Studio 2012 since that was the ...

Windows XP/2003 (NT 5.2) Updated (Beta 2)
Main Info These ISOs are released in a beta state. They mostly work, but don't have all the features I want yet, or can be buggy. For example, the USB 3 drivers aren't the best, only 2003 x86 has UDF 2.5 drivers, 2003 x86 doesn't recognize new USB devices without rebooting with stock USB drivers, R...

Sound Blaster ExpressCard audio cards for laptops
To start this off, you're probably going to want the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook (SB0710), unless you absolutely need ExpressCard 34 compatibility. Even then a cheap USB DAC would probably be good enough, combined with a USB hub if you don't have enough USB ports. It's what I currently ...
