hello everyone
I want to know if roytam1 will ever fork the genuine Firefox instead of using this crap copy of Basilisk ?
the performance difference under W7 between Basilisk and Firefox is like day and night despite the lack of multi process mode
I have tried out the portable chrome fork https://bbs.kafan.cn/forum-298-1.html but it's too much RAM hangry and I feel the crome360 faster and smooother.
I don't like to run dual boot or use slow virtual machines so if I ever leave XP it's because I can't stand the current sluggish web browsers....
there are so many great alternatives for W7 that I envy it because web browsers are no longer being optimized for XP.
all this said I rarely use Firefox 52 currently but I find it really smooth in comparison to the Serpent 52

try with new profile first. browser becoming slow may caused by a huge profile folder.

Not gonna happen. Goanna is built from an ancient version of FF's engine making it piss to backport to older systems, and I remember all the memory handling problems with FF pre-Quantum, so stacking shit on top of shit will only ever make it a colossal sized shit.
I do notice that once any of RT1's browsers have been used for about a day or you access a single site requiring heavy JS/holding a single connection i.e. Discord, the whole thing becomes unusably slow, which wasn't an issue a few years ago (but was in Firefox pre-Quantum for years)

if it only was a profile folder issue.....
indeed I can't even play videos from this site with Serpent 52 or 360chrome v11 https://www.antena3.com/noticias/economia/garantia-productos-amplia-2-3-anos_2021042860897a2086bd6a0001d2d793.html

I use XP because I love it, not because I have a prehistoric laptop nor do I use XP as a seconday OS
it all boils down to facebook and similar heavy sites which require an optimized web browser to surf the web.
although I am not asking for something to match the high speed of an Android phone with facebook apk.
RAM size is not an issue to me with the PAE patch....

"I use XP because I love it"
Understandable, tbh.
"it all boils down to facebook and similar heavy sites which require an optimized web browser to surf the web."
Yeah, Mozilla pre-Quantum has godawful support for anything that requires persistently holding a connection (WebSockets).

I didn't want to start a new thread so you already have another issue to work out.
but the answer to the first post is still unclear. are you skilled enough to fork the original Firefox quantum ?

I would prefer to see a Firefox 45 or 47 fork similar to the Lun3r concept I posted a while back.

the github website doesn't work as intended with Serpent52 I can't even quote other users or click on the ''preview tag'' before posting

for github, you have to install polyfill: https://github.com/JustOff/github-wc-polyfill/releases

Better than 3x, and before the great slowdown of 5x. Also 45 was ESR release.

tried this in the past but didn't solve my issue at all, and apparentely the Centaury browser suffers from the same issue.roytam1 wrote: ↑26 May 2021, 23:23 for github, you have to install polyfill: https://github.com/JustOff/github-wc-polyfill/releases
however the 360chrome v11 (chrome 69) which is rather old works just fine.

I don't recall if it was any better back then, at that time I think the multi process thing was not even available so the performance could not be so much superior.

one of the downsides of the 360chrome is that it's not recognized as a ''secure browser''I have even lost a gmail account because of it.
everytime I try to login in some sites I get a warning message via email related to unknown user access to my account and sometimes they even report a wrong IP of me. I will never use it for banking or shopping that's clair.
I use the russian repack and have a bunch of chinese URL spyers listed in the hosts file as well
I would be pretty much happy if the Serpent 52 or 55 were as much smooth as the 360chrome
