Fixing ghost This PC folders when using OldNewExplorer and Classic/Open Shell

Unread post by K4sum1 »

There are two methods to fixing This PC folders appearing. The issue is caused by OldNewExplorer calling for the This PC folders when opening the folder that you select.

Method 1: Embrace This PC folders

It's actually not that bad, I find it's cleaner looking than Favorites + Libraries + This PC. There is one issue where the Desktop folder under This PC has no Recycle Bin while the one under Favorites does. It's an easy fix though, just use WinAeroTweaker to delete the old Desktop folder, and replace it using the one under Favorites.

Method 2: Tell Open Shell to use the Libraries version of folders instead of those under This PC

Go to Open Shell settings, under Customize Start Menu are your menu items. For this example I will be using Documents, but this will work for the other Libraries folders. Right click Documents and click Edit Item. In the window that pops up go to the Command drop box and change it from user_documents to lib_documents, then click OK. Do the same for Pictures, Music, and Videos.

Downloads isn't as straight forward, but it can still be fixed. There is no Library/Favorites option for Downloads, the only one in Open Shell opens the Downloads in This PC. To fix this, you have to specify the Downloads folder in your user directory. Right click Downloads and click Edit Item. In the window that pops up, delete everything under command, then click to another box. Using the Link box that just became available, type "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads", then go to Label and type "Downloads", then go to icon and type "imageres.dll, 184", and then click OK. Click OK on the Open Shell Settings window, and everything should work, no more This PC folders.
