as windows xp gets older it's also gotten harder to find a good solid antivirus that works on it and this topic should help clear things up in this post I will be listing and researching the different antivirus for windows and post them here for anyone to download (inspired by the antivirus thread on msfn)

and clamwin seems like the better option to any of these (it's open source I think) and supports everything down to windows 95 https://clamwin.com/

I've switched over to Glarysoft Malware Hunter now and I quite enjoy it.

https://www.glarysoft.com/malware-hunter/

I use the free version and that is OK with me because I don't use real-time anyway.

I always use freeze programs instead antivir software for XP and never got any problem.... just reboot and forget about stay updated and consume resources.
I also used portable viruscanner (Drweb) for the appz that I downloaded and I wanted to conserve on external HD. Im not sure if Drweb continue working on XP (I use all my XP machines offline)

^What program do you recommend to "freeze" the system, I think that would be better than real-time.

@xperceniol:
A quick-reacting hand (or foot) in reach of the power cord of your computer? Or the power switch...

Still running the Windows XP machines without any antivirus. No website it encountered was a threat so far. Being reluctant with enabling Javascript seems to be the key.

I only tried Deep Freeze Standard many years ago.

There's also Windows' own Enhanced Writer Filter solution (seems to be named wrongly on that page), though not included with standard XP out of the box.

For me I just use a good firewall and if I need to scan something, Virustotal works.
