Regrettably, the latest emmabuntus DE5 runs terrible and youtube is choppy and overall performance was slow and too much lag. Not everything was comparable. I'll stay with DE4.

Just struggling as of late to connect to my surroundings - I feel very disconnected and disjointed so I continue to use grounding techniques to keep what little grasp on life I have (which isn't much if I'm being honest).

I don't mess with Linux these days. Pretty much only use it for specific tasks. Don't know what fits on old underpowered computers. I recently came across Raspberry Pi Desktop.

Though distro probably won't make a difference if the issue are underperforming drivers or some other core components.

Thank you, RedBeam, yes whilst a happy times for others its a struggle for me.

Yeah, UCyborg, I just do it for testing when I'm bored; gonna stay with windows XP until the very old hardware fails.

So how are you doing?

Weekend was pretty dull, just didn't know what to do with myself. At least I blew the dust out of the PC.

Ordered some new sound hardware last week. Should arrive by the end of the week. Don't know what to expect, just figured maybe I should get something new, something to feel alive, to break the monotony, at least for a while.

I was looking at new computers and gaming consoles before, dropped the idea with a gaming console and not sure I feel like setting up a new computer at this time. Bit conflicted about it, the old one still works, though can't do all tricks new ones can, but still works, but it could serve as a storage computer if I got a new one rather than having no use at all.

Did your new sound hardware arrive safely? Did you try it out yet?

Oh yeah, all installed and plugged in. A set of a bit pricier headphones and a dedicated sound card. Sounds good so far!

Awesome!! Yeah, I have 2 nice headphones and it really makes a difference ... especially for us that appreciate music and I rely on good quality for my meditation music.

This place is deeeeaaad. :\

Holidays are coming. Not a good time for those dealing with traumas, depression, loneliness. Guess we'll get through it somehow.

I have an incredible amount of junk concentrated in one of the folders on my computer that needs sorting and cleaning. Man, how much it accumulates with nothing to show for it. When the heck will I manage to get to it?

Yeah this forum is quiet in comparison to others - yeah we'll get through it somehow tomorrow. Need to sleep early tonight and be ready but it should be quiet where I reside because they all went to their family's houses - I have no contact with them throughout the year after my father died in 2019.

Well ... I'll miss you and you'll always have a special place in my heart if I don't see you again. Maybe you'll change your mind and finish your projects. Either way, you are a good person and I hope whatever you decide to do you enjoy it.

Sincerely Yours

Salvatore

Yeah, the holidays were spoiled because of T~R~U~M~P........

Funny, if for some strange reason I should come into money I wouldn't buy a new computer. I know it seems strange on a computer forum to say that; but I'd rather get new clothes that actually fit that I look good in - I have an image problem. The 90's are calling and want their wardrobe back. Right now so long as my two computers keep running I'll use them until they bitter end. Both hard drives are going bad and I can't do much anymore with em; but they serve my needs right now.

So how's everybody doing?

I've bought a Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus last month, which is silly in a way, it's probably worth more than the rest of the computer. But it can be moved to another computer. One disk out of three died many months ago, might be 2 years already if not more, bad sectors, almost unreadable, didn't feel like unplugging it, so just dismounted it in Windows.

I'm feeling the lack of SSE 4.1 instructions, it's not critical at this point, but it's definitely getting long in the tooth. Heck, official Pale Moon build wants AVX instructions, so have to roll with unofficial build.

Got extra 2 GB of RAM a year ago, so I'm at 6 GB, some cheap Kingston that's out of place near the more decent Mushkin modules. That helps a bit. I don't usually buy used stuff, don't like the idea of buying directly from random people online, I got it at some shop that takes used hardware.

Lots of stuff to sort through, hopefully I get to it before the remaining disks start to fail. And since I got a discrete sound card and some extra RAM, might as well get some more out of this computer.

Got a Raspberry Pi 5 as well, which is neat in its own way, the CPU has quite a punch considering the size and power consumption, I got it because I got overexcited about the possibility to fix the old router, which turned out to be physically fried.

Guess I'm a casual when it comes to clothing, keeping it simple.
