I have a strange bug/annoyance with R3dfox 146 when I right click on the page back/page forward arrows at the top left corner.
When I slowly hover the pages history with my mouse several lines keep being highlighted at the same time:

I don't have any problems when downloading files BUT on Github where the download speed is often low, like 150 KB/s or less, sometimes very low 20-30 KB/s. If I stop the download with the X and restart it then I get full speed.


AFAIK this occurs on Github only, any repo. This does not happen with Firefox 115.32 ESR.

Hi everyone,
is there any way to remove the uBlock Origin extension from r3dfox, if I prefer not to use it?
I removed it manually from the profile folder, but it reinstalled itself.

I had a large message typed out.
But have decided to "bite my tongue".

In regards to how to prevent this "bundle" from reinstalling itself when you, the end user, "prefers not to use it" --
1) CLOSE r3dfox (and make sure it isn't listed in Task Manager)
2) navigate to your Profile directory
3) you will see a FOLDER named "extensions"
4) inside that FOLDER is a FILE named uBlock-blah-blah-blah-dot-xpi -- DELETE IT
5) go back to the Profiles directory
6) DELETE the FOLDER named "extensions"
7) CREATE a FILE named "extensions"
8) now, when Mickey Mouse tries to recreate the FOLDER and then drop an .xpi into it, the OS will not let it because a FILE and a FOLDER cannot share the same name
9) watch this fix no longer work in the next r3dfox release because we made the developer aware of how we PREVENT the "bundled" uBlock

Granted, that method assumes you use ZERO extensions.
I only use r3dfox for "testing" and only use it with ZERO extensions.

If you want to run your own extensions but prevent the uBlock "bundle", there are "loaders" that can perform this.
But that kind of "complicates" things. But it can be done.

The forced installation of uBlock Origin in r3dfox is another LibreWolf-ication feature and is controlled by a group policy; the proper way to do what @ivanbuto wants is:

1. With r3dfox exited, navigate to its installation directory (not the browser profile!)
2. Locate the "distribution" directory and open it
3. Open the policies.json file with a proper text editor
4. Remove below lines

Code: Select all "ExtensionSettings": { "uBlock0@raymondhill.net": { "install_url": "https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/uBlock0@raymondhill.net/latest.xpi", "installation_mode": "normal_installed", "private_browsing": true } },

and then save the edited file.

5. You can then navigate to r3dfox's "profile directory\extensions" and purge it from the "uBlock0@raymondhill.net.xpi" file.

6. Launch r3dfox; it should now be clean of uBO and an auto-reinstallation should not take place...

DISCLAIMER: I do use myself uBO in ALL of my browsers, so nothing against the extension itself; what I don't like (and haven't liked for ages) is when user freedom of choice is taken away (even when it's for said user's best interest) ...

Yeah, I actually use uBO in all of my non-VM browsers (r3dfox is strictly VM).
But a *MODIFIED* version more to my liking than the original.

Even though uBlock Origin is a must have IMO.

Maybe even FOUR.

And you would:
A) not read it all
B) not be swayed any from your already "stern stance" (sarcastic over-state)
C) continue to think "your way" is the "only way" (another sarcastic over-state "for effect")
D) no amount of "do it my way" is going to win me over to "your side", and the opposite is equally true (see B.)


Reminder: I use uBO (an OLDER version, INTENTIONALLY). But not even the developer would "recognize" a lot some of the modified "underbelly".

That's ONE SMALL STEP in the right direction.
But bottom line is that it should NOT BE THERE AT ALL.

It wreaks, to me, the history of Google getting kickbacks from Mozilla for having Google set as default search.

Along the same lines, and again just the way "I think", does r3dfox have the developer's "permission" to force-include?

And there is no forced inclusion in Firefox, it's only installed by default in some of its forks like R3dfox and LibreWolf.

I haven't felt the need to use it. That doesn't mean I have something specific against this software and I may look into using it in the future.

Firefox 147.0.4 has been released with an important security fix. They have also updated the ESR versions which rarely happens, so that means this is a very important security fix.

I agree about having the choice to add it during installation but I really appreciate it being included. I haven't run a browser without it in many years and it's always a shock to experience the web without ublock. I wish it was included in Supermium as well.

I mainly use UCyborg's Ublock version. I also now use Ublock https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.47.0 for Mypal74 but I notice that the more lists I enable the longer the browser lags and you have to wait at launch before you can use it.

Hi all.
I have a few questions I need help/pointers about, before using r3dfox or r3dfox esr as my default browser.

1. can r3dfox be updated automaticaly like org Firefox?
I only tried portable version for now, and that one doesn't have any option for updating. How do you guys update and save all your settings/extensions/themes, is there some export/import or you can manuly copy settings/profile folders/files?

2. What is proper way to create different profiles in the r3dfox or r3dfox esr? I managed to create separate profile by using -Profile "profile name" in the shortcut properties but I'm unsure if this is the correct way. If I create profile using about:profiles in the browser nothing happens and I have no idea how that works.

Everybody is going to want different things. I personally *HATE* (and that word is not strong enough!) any software that "automatically" updates (and go out of my way to "break" any update mechanisms the developer puts in place).

I use Official Pale Moon's PORTABLE file structure and replace ALL files inside the BIN folder.
I NEVER LAUNCH THIS BASE FOLDER STRUCTURE. NEVER!

I copy the entire portable file structure over and over and over and over.
Each portable has its own "profile".
Sometimes I copy the base never-launched, other times I copy three copies in and make that my new base.

I do this for *ALL* Firefox forks.
At the beginning, I just kept the Palemoon folder name and renamed whatever fork's .exe to match.
But eventually I modified the folder structure and even the exe's icon.


Both 1 and 2 are never going to be one-size-fits-all.
Most newbies won't like my #2 approach.
But they also won't like any #1 approach that requires adding PYTHON if they aren't already skilled enough to be using it in the first place.

1 was already answered there's no real official update mechanism yet. So I'll give 2 a proper answer.

Since you're using the portable version, it basically just passes -profile Profile to the exe and therefore makes a "Profile" folder in the portable browser directory with your profile. If about:profiles is broken here, it's because it's being overridden here. If you go into (r3dfox folder)\browser, you'll find a pmundprt.mod file, and this controls that behavior. Deleting it will revert it to stock operation with a profile in Appdata.
