I was *never* a bar person. I thank Golly G because 'most' "bar people" don't have what I would consider a "successful" life story.
Being 20-something and spending every paycheck-leftover in a bar is one thing.
But somebody in their 30s or 40s without a dime to their name because of how much they spend at bars is another thing entirely.
I'm not trying to sound judgey or whatever, I've just seen too many people whose lives were RUINED by bars, *never* "improved" by them.

In the 90's, I was what we called a "Rink Rat".
In Canada, the slang term deals with ice hockey.
I was not into ice hockey.
Our city used the term for teens that spent each and every weekend roller skating at the roller rink - ie, "rink rat".
We skated to songs of every genre, including Cotton Eye Joe.

Yeah, I don't know, I've also over the years, when I used to go to clubs, I did see how it destroyed relationships and like you wrote, I think in your 30's and 40's + when money is tight its irresponsible to spend all your money in a bar. I don't miss bars or clubs at all - part of a dark past that I just assume to put behind me. I also used to roller skate when I was a child and it was fun going to the skating rink. Most of the roller skating rinks have closed their doors from lack of interest - and that is too bad. Was fun! A lot of community activities has vanished and people have become isolated (including myself) . I was a good boy in my teens and stayed out of trouble and was always in the house by 9 PM every night to watch TV with my father. I managed to graduate from high school somehow; how ... I lucked out I guess. Of course he has long passed away and my mother also passed away last year. I've processed it and am OK but my family is a mess and I'm not even on speaking terms with most of my extended family. That I guess was the only thing about going to clubs was the acceptance. But I'm in my 50's now and that is for young guys. Right now I prefer peace and quiet. Right now so many families and friendships are/were destroyed by politics and religious differences. I would never go crawling back to them because I did nothing wrong.

Better to accept yourself rather than to seek it out from others because people will always disappoint you and the only one you can rely on is yourself when the going gets rough. I see things differently now that I'll be 54 in a few months.

"Covid masks" are an IMMENSE psychological TRIGGER that I cannot control (or just DON'T WANT TO) !!! I have WALKED OUT of stores, restaurants, gas stations, salons, YOU NAME IT, all on account of employees wearing the D@MN THINGS !!!

The only real "told-you-so" BENEFIT of the "covid mask" is that when you see RIOTS in the streets, stores getting LOOTED, grandma's being kidnapped and the porch camera catches the suspect, PUBLIC MASS SHOOTINGS, YOU NAME IT, they are *ALWAYS* wearing COVID MASKS !!!

We live in a society where people should be PUT IN JAIL for NOTHING MORE than HIDING THEIR D#MN FACE !!!
The NON-LAW-ABIDING always always ALWAYS *HIDE* behind a d@mn COVID MASK !!!

Ask those surgeons if they'll so much as take it off and on and reuse over and over and over?

Ask those surgeons if that mask was PROVIDED TO THEM in the LOBBY and from a BOX OF MASKS as they entered the hospital from outdoors?

Ask YOURSELF if you would let a SURGEON operate on you if they handled their mask as a COVID MASK instead of as a MEDICAL MASK?

And I firmly believe that people that wear masks in public are not doing so for "health and safety".

OK I feel better now. I live in a blue state and people think everybody wears a mask here but not anymore. I actually have doctors order that I can not wear a face mask due to asthma. I only have to wear a mask at the hospital.

My state is purple.

I walked into a local home repair company and they were all wearing masks and even went as far as to use their filthy dirty hands to pull a mask out of a box on the counter and hand it to me, saying I could not shop at their store without a mask.

I grabbed the mask with my filthy dirty hand and dropped it to the floor, stepped on it with my filthy dirty shoe, and said it was just as clean now as when they handed it to me.

Then I asked them if their corporate headquarters were in a BLUE STATE !!! !!! !!!
Then turned around and walked out.

I'm basically "purple". But I do not live in a Third World Country and will not walk around with any of those THIRD WORLD MENTALITY masks on !!! I have my freedom and I will not wear a mask, will not be mandated into any shot (which have long-standing side effects not known until years later!), et cetera...

^Gosh, I've never had anybody ask that of me ... I guess I would also walk out unless its medical and I'm around immunocompromised people ... I just wish if people are/were sick they would just stay home and not spread germs around. Better than using a mask.

LOOONG after "covid" was a real thing to be concerned with by most NORMAL-THINKING folks (even "scientists").

When you give that kind of "power" to folks to CONTROL other folks, that "power" is (was!) very hard to "take back".

Reminded me of living life in the 3rd grade and the "hall monitor" HIGH ON POWER and acting like he was KING OF THE UNIVERSE instead of a lowly "hall monitor" making sure I go straight to the drinking fountain and return to my classroom "post-haste".

Give "power" to a Democrat and they will fight tooth and nail to KEEP THAT POWER.
Same goes for "that other party" too. But at THAT TIME, it was CLEARLY the Democratic party living the HIGH ON POWER "mentality".

You are allowed to interpret that history your own way, of course.

Kind of akin to International Humanitarian Law (Geneva Conventions III and IV and Hague Regulations) that require military to wear uniforms.

Is it "profiling"? Yeah, to an extent. But again, military wear uniforms FOR A REASON. HOODLUMS wear masks FOR A REASON. Profile away, I'm okay with that! But there is a difference between "profiling" a HOODLUM (with SEVERAL run-in's with THE LAW and ON PROBATION from those run-in's [put an ankle bracelet on the POS and arrest-on-site if hiding his face from public cameras!]) versus "profiling" a LEGIT RELIGIOUS RITE (with ZERO run-in's with THE LAW and to be HIGHLY RESPECTED in this "godless age")!

what is 'purple'? i'm not too engrossed in american politics

Sorry, didn't mean to mislead, just random observation. In those cases, having covered faces may be more of, well, just another form of being oppressed. At least that's how I see it.

I'm not familiar with colors meaning in terms of US' states either.
