Due to server slowness, downtime, and other issues, guests can no longer search the forum or view user accounts. At some point in the future Eclipse will be moving to a more stable and efficient platform that should result in much better stability and the lifting of these restrictions. There is no timeline for this yet, just want you to know what's happening with all the downtime and I have a plan to fix it.

Pixel Unmute

Post by The-10-Pen »

There's an extension called "Twitch PixelMute" (originally a Firefox .xpi but can be unzipped and manually installed in Chrome).
Found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/twitch-pixelmute/

What it does:
By way of an "eyedropper", you create a rule for an exact pixel location and color for it to monitor.
Think of an ad that says "skip ad" in the corner, define your rule by selecting a pixel in that "skip ad" button.
The extension MUTES the browser when that pixel "rule" is detected.

Problem:
It only works on Twitch (never heard of it), Kick (never heard of it), and YouTube (useless because uBO already blocks ads).

Concept:
This should be done in REVERSE.
ie, don't MUTE a tab based on a pixel location and color but rather MUTE BY DEFAULT and *UNMUTE* based on pixel location and color.
I'm thinking of the way that pretty much all television streaming channels operate - the channel's LOGO in the corner AT ALL TIMES.
But there is *NO* logo when the streaming channel is playing an AD.

I'm not using Twich much but last time I did, about 2 weeks ago, I didn't had any ads.
Using uBlock Origin + uMatrix + NoScript. I know, some may say it's too much and redundant in some cases, but at least I have full control over the content.

Not sure why you moved this to the "Browsers" section.
Perhaps "Concepts" wasn't the right location, but why "Browsers"?

I actually have a "working prototype" (very buggy, but 'proof-of-concept') using AutoHotkey.
System-wide, has nothing to do with "browsers".

Because it's a browser extension and the Browsers forum belongs to Hardware, Software and Customization → General Software & Hardware → Browsers.
The Concept forum is about "Have a concept you made and want to share? This is the place."

Gray area.
I'm using AutoHotkey (has nothing to do with any web browser and is not an "extension") for a working system-wide prototype.
But yeah, all of my streaming is via web browser (but it doesn't have to be).
