So, I'm tired of bots scraping the forum and using the contact forum to send me porn ads, so I've disabled the contact page.

If you want to contact the admins, you can contact me, win32, Audi9801, docR, MassClaw, or any other Admins/Moderators that get added in the future.

Wait, there's been spambots trying to post here? Hmm... might be worth a revision of the anti-bot if they've actively managed to register accounts.

Also, R3n, it was probably personalised to you, we know what you are like...

Is this some kind of a plague that terrorizes phpBB forums?

Although it's indeed not software specific, the popular phpBB forums (i.e Virtualbox's forum) sure seem like the primary cause for this boom.

You did, though... phpbb is forum software.

Yeah, your wording made it appear like you were assuming the spammers specifically targeted phpBB boards. It's noteworthy that they do tend to use the Google/Bing/etc. search parameters (usually Bing as it has zero anti-bot flagging) and search "[topic/keyword]" "[footer content of site software]" to find threads. Both the Eastern European spam botnet and the human spammers from South Asia use these mechanisms to find websites to leave their marker.

I could detail most of their overall methods on a webpage, preferably whenever I get around to making my own site, so as not to derail this thread (and as a free linkback).
