The current Vista extended kernel was abandoned as a buggy mess and is closed source, has a messy installer, and generally isn't that great.
There are options like One-Core which use open source projects (ex. ReactOs) and COULD be ported to Vista,
You could even try and use Wine to make a VxKex-esque system.

Why has nobody done this? Vista has the worst extended kernel out of the XP-7 range (its just above Windows 8.1 which has none)

IMO Vista's extended kernel is actually the best one out of these, just manually install only x64 October2022 version which is 100% stable
VxKex is ok, but can't do very much as at relies on redirection
OneCoreAPI was definitely not stable last time I checked it out
BWC Windows 2000 is a very good one, maybe even better than the one for Vista, but Windows 2000 simply a bit too old to daily drive at least for me.

one core API is garbage, it turns everything into Portuguese for some reason.

that said, the ethics of the vista exkernel devteam are... questionable, to say the least

I bricked my Vista install by installing the extended kernel, something something security updates break the extended kernel

it's common sense not to update the system after screwing with them using tools like that.

I didnt update the system after, updating it beforehand resulted in the extended kernel being installed bricking it

hm, strange. never had that issue personally...
guessing you followed everything, I'd guess it's some sort of extremely fringe driver software/hardware issue, and seeing as the project is (apparently) discontinued according to this thread, then well.

as for why it's closed source, there's some... questionable ethics in that side of the windows community, likely due to the excess of newcomers into this stuff and those people being able to do what they want due to effectively hoarding knowledge/info amongst themselves and their friends.

Honestly the thing I hate most about the Vista extended kernel is the fact that it somehow breaks a lot of native vista applications, for example FRAPS completely breaks and MSI afterburner I can only get a version from 2019 working with it despite the latest one working fine in a base vista install. There is a couple other applications like this too but I can only remember those two off the top of my head.
