Hello, this is a guide on how to get the latest working Steam client, (no longer 2023-01-26) on Windows Vista This will mean that you theoretically get access to run Steam API v21 games This will only work with the Extended Kernel installed, so keep that in mind Step 1: Download the Steam client from https://mega.nz/folder/GRlSCZwY#0qCL7SJkYllwkSr8RAZMYg/file/TIknQQSJ Step 2: Download steam.cfg and ntk32.dll from the attachments of this post Step 3: Extract the client files Step 4: Copy steam.cfg and ntk32.dll to the Steam folder Step 5: Go into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam and copy ntk32.dll to there as well Step 6: Open sdl3.dll with CFF Explorer, go to Import Table, kernel32.dll and change SetWaitableTimerEx to SetWaitableTimer Step 7: Spoof the Steam client and Steam Web Helper to think they're on Windows 7 with osver.ini Step 8: Replace bin\gldriverquery.exe with rundll32.exe or another EXE that does absolutely nothing to prevent a crash message on startup Step 9: Start Steam with the following parameters: -cef-disable-sandbox Step 10: Log in as usual Some things i've noticed Games may still crash, each game will have different fix steps that are out of scope for this guide The Store, Workshop, etc will not load. The Library page works fine. It does not work well without DWM. ![]() |
