Do not buy an AM4 ASRock board for Windows 7 (or earlier)

Unread post by K4sum1 »

I've used an ASRock X370 board and an ASRock X570 board, and found them to have issues, issues that I can verify that others are having online.

x4x0 might be fine. I've heard nothing about B550, but I'd assume it to be the same as X570.

I had a X370 Killer SLI/ac, it was hell, unless you used Windows 10. pci.sys BSODs on 7, and Memory_Management BSODs on 8.1 (no matter what I set the memory to). I also see pci.sys BSODs mentioned for various ASRock X370 and B350 boards online when trying to use 7 with them. Not entirely sure why these have issues while I hear that the x4x0 boards are fine

I also have a X570 Taichi, it has general weirdness probably because of the BIOS. It will not boot Vista/7 with a 3000/5000 series chip, encountering a 0x0000007E BSOD, however 2000 series chips don't have this issue. I can find others online with X570 ASRock boards not being able to boot 7.

I've found MSI boards to be really good, however ASUS and Gigabyte boards appear to be fine as well (and might be better due to them having PS/2 emulation, but I hear mixed results with that). I haven't heard anything about EVGA boards. I'd probably get one to test if the PCIe layout wasn't terrible.

TL;DR
Read the title lol

That's good to know. 7E is SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED so something is not being handled, but idk. Have you tried Windows XP?

I could try XP, but I currently have my 2700X in the X570 Taichi as I'm testing unstability with that chip that only happens in that board.
