Steam and older Windows pre-7?
Is there a way to using Steam in XP/Vista without having to dual boot witg 7+ and/or have the games installed with another PC and copy them?

I haven't tested Steam in a long while. I think modern Steam is too webview dependent to really work on Vista anymore. Maybe osver.ini faking could work though.

I'm currently trying to obtain a working build of steam for XP myself, as I want to play some older games in my library but like I don't really know where to start.
I have lost confidence slightly though since the last updates of steam where they changed all of the login system and stuff. Before it appears you could have just spoofed some records to get it to work.
I'm wondering if it could be possible to maybe download the game files from a modern machine, copy over the files and somehow run it that way.
Would be cool if steam was like some other apps where you could just log in from online and download the apps from there to any OS.

Last I tried, the 'XP-compatible' modded clients worked fine albeit the WebView was completely broken, either due to insufficient cipher suites, or something else.
I guess this is just yet another artifact of DRM. Thanks a bunch Valve...

I don't really blame them for not wanting to support an OS that has only maybe a few hundred thousand users (and yeah I'm guesstimating that the amount of users using Windows XP is in the hundred thousands)
