what are the best games that are currently available on linux? I have a linux computer I'm looking to do some gaming on (it a future custom build pc) and can't find much games that work so is there any games for linux? If Anyone could help with this it would be much appreciated

Actually quite a lot since Proton exists, although you have to check compatibility, and it can be a pain for non-steam games.

Even though it might not seem like the logical approach, playing Win32 games over Wine or Proton is actually the preferred and recommended way of playing games under Linux environments^[1][2]. Traditionally, Linux game ports were plagued with issues^[3], relying on the only graphical API available back then, OpenGL. In modern times, game developers don't bother with native ports as wrapper technologies have got exponentially better, often beating native Microsoft Windows implementations^[4]. Either case, it's still nice to have native Linux ports available as Wine and Proton are still not perfect.

I'm surprised to see that some titles are missing from the lists, from my own research, here are some:
- DiRT Showdown (officially ported in 2015)
- DiRT Rally 1.5 (officially ported in 2017)
- DiRT 4 (officially ported in 2019)
- F1 2017 (officially ported in 2017)
- Euro Truck Simulator 2 (has a 64-bit compatible version)
- Metro Exodus (officially ported in 2021)
- Rigs of Rods (BeamNG predecessor, officially ported in 2007, newer versions are 64-bit native)
- X-Plane (if i'm not mistaken, since version 8.0, released 2004, newer versions are 64-bit native)
- Universe Sandbox 2 (since release, now renamed Universe Sandbox)
- Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004 (since release, might not work with 64-bit Linux)
- Minetest (popular Minecraft clone)
- Classicube (another popular Minecraft clone based on 0.30)
- Killing Floor (officially ported in 2012)
- Black Mesa (since release)

Minetest, SuperTux, Chocolate DOOM (there's other Doom engine ports but this one is the most faithful to original DOS-mode; it includes FreeDOOM, which can be then combined with any other Doom 2 PWAD), most of the Valve Source titles, among others.

Your question's a little bit open-ended, are you specifically looking for free (as in, GNU/GPL) games to play, or just in general?
