I've found modern VLC to not like FLAC files for some reason. There will be random delays or skips. This appears to have been fixed at some point between 3.0.19 and 3.0.20, but got unfixed in release 3.0.20. I found this nightly in-between version to be nice and stable with no issues for me. Audio is clear, no issues even with high DPC latency.
