Hello, can anyone advise whether changing this parameter in about:config has any effect? It's available to be changed in firefox standard but has no effect when doing so. Apparently it does have an effect in firefox nightly but not sure about r3dfox. This needs to set to false to install unsigned extensions.

The history of that is that it is assumed that only "smart" people use NIGHTLY and that unsigned is allowed to make TESTING easier and it was never intended to be a default "for the masses" (ie, the less "smart") to use (or to even KNOW about).
