Hide email as contact method by default when creating user account
I noticed that by default this board enables email as contact method for user profile. I think this should be off by default since not everyone want share email they use publicly. I think some wont even realize it specially if using Aero theme it wont even show email, unless you click on little chat bubble icon or go to profile.
Hoot Hoot!
(Too bad Finnish saying "Ei Pöllömpi allekirjoitus" (not too owl signature, which can also mean not too bad signature) does not translate too well to English. Well that shall do it)

I'll kind of respectfully disagree.
Whether it's Meta/Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Snapchat, Google/YouTube, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Discord, Twitch, WhatsApp, you name it, it is ALWAYS the responsibility of the end-user to 'jump through' hoops of setting up "profile preferences".
Eclipse.cx is never going to have a set of "defaults" that appeases all members.
You get them to make a change for "your taste", somebody else pops up with a different request and pulls a "you did it for so-and-so".

My main concern is since all other message boards I used disable that feature by default for all users there is change users may not realize it is on. It may lead doxxing or other stuff. It is for user security and privacy as well. I see you disabled it from you. If it is not big deal being on by default why bother with it and why not let everyone send you spamThe-10-Pen wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025, 17:22 I'll kind of respectfully disagree.

I did not say disable it rather turn off feature by default. That means anyone who wishes email communication can enable it. Also I did not say force it for existing user. Rather set it as default for anyone who creates new account to have it disabled by default. I don't like anyone messing with settings of existing users either.The-10-Pen wrote: ↑09 Sep 2025, 17:22 Eclipse.cx is never going to have a set of "defaults" that appeases all members.

OF COURSE I DID!
And it was *MY* responsibility to see if that was the "default" or not and to set it to *MY* preference.
Basically falls inline with I support PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY, it is not ANY web site's "role" to look out for my privacy or security.
It is ALL ON ME on whether I choose to become a member and ALL ON ME on how I set up my profile.
If I don't like how a web site can be configured, then I don't become a member, it's that simple.
Claiming anything other than that is just some form of falsely claiming "victimhood".
To each their own, of course.
