Due to server slowness, downtime, and other issues, guests can no longer search the forum or view user accounts. At some point in the future Eclipse will be moving to a more stable and efficient platform that should result in much better stability and the lifting of these restrictions. There is no timeline for this yet, just want you to know what's happening with all the downtime and I have a plan to fix it.

Yeah, good luck.
But my question is different - why bother to ANNOUNCE a departure?
This, to me, seems like just some form of "seeking attention".
Or just the personification of this beloved Disney character:

Small Break From Eclipse
After returning to this great forum I realized perhaps I should have stayed gone from computer forums and just stay on my mental health forum for now. Besides, this is unhealthy for me and I'm honestly not doing very well anyway. I'm in full psychosis and I'm working hard to get myself back to somewhat normal. So for now, I'll also be taking a short break (won't even read) and maybe one day I'll return. My paranoia has shot through the roof this evening and this isn't good.
Folks I'm trying my hardest to get past addiction to prescription medications and I wrongly thought this would help to get back in touch with old forum friends. For now, I"ll leave my account open and if I'm unable to contribute better, I'll ask the admin here to close my account. I need to get outside more as my agoraphobia is kicking back in. Sorry possum for choosing your thread to exit but I always considered you to be a good friend and perhaps I should take a page from your book and disappear.
Anyways:
I hope you are enjoying a nice life down there and I do think of you often with fond memories. I will always remember the friendship between K4sum1 and I, but maybe its time to cut ties for health reason(s). Besides, I'm the only of few people here still using XP and this forum is for Vista and 7 users. I would go full Linux at some point given the choice.
I mean, hey, I can't complain too much, I had a good run but I need to focus on real life now and somehow (no idea how) but to stop this cycle and now is the time. Also I pissed off Duke for deleting 3 postings about depression accusing me of ruining threads (my own thread - go figure that). Its Okay and OK and I was wrong, but I'm only human and just trying to survive my day-today happenings. I NEVER claimed to be perfect and I'm mentally ill. I'm not happy and that is bad. Just taking it day-by-day now and I never know what I'm going to wake up to in the morning now. Struggling folks.
All the best to you old buddy and thank you for just being YOU. Never apologize to anybody, and remember, you are human and we are all imperfect. Nobody is perfect and watch out for those that claim otherwise.
All the best to the Eclipse community and everybody try to be healthy and happy if possible - not easy in this toxic society that hates me.
Bye bye for now and no reply needed

You need a break ? No problem, just do it and come back whenever you want, whenever you feel it's ok for you.
It's not that important. This is just a forum, use it at will. Nothing to justify to anyone.
Good idea, that's always better than staying in front of a computer 16 hours a day
Same, I'll fully go the Linux way sooner or later but surely not the Windows 11 route.

Thank you, Duke and I'll leave my account open because I might regret it later but I will take that break for maybe a few months to recover. Besides I wasn't doing very well that evening I wrote that. I did get outside yesterday two times and it was strange but I know I need sun.

I pretty much don't have anything to contribute to any (computer) forum at this point. Just grinding through existence. The amount of commits I have made to software at work since gaining access to source repo is crazy. Modern developers are just useless with the amount of slop they produce.
I see Linux being promoted left and right on just about any forum you go to. Seems it's all over YouTube too. But honestly, I'd rather not use a computer than deal with nightmare that is Linux.
The way IT has gone, the only sane thing left long-term seems to be to shun the whole thing.

AGREED !!!
I learned that lesson FORTY YEARS AGO !!!
I've been grabbing Linux versions here and there for FORTY YEARS.
And what was true FORTY YEARS ago is STILL TRUE today.
It is for the HOBBYIST, plain and simple.
I can get just as much "done", and have just as much "fun", by firing up the COMMODORE 64 emulator!
But as far as getting "real work done", Linux is just a PITA and really no different than a dog chasing its own tail or running a UXP Browser.
And as far as being "promoted left and right", the same B&LLSH#T goes hand in hand with FIREFOX.
All this reveals is the "depths" the THREE PERCENT will *TROLL* the 'net to promote their SH#T.
When it comes right down to it, there are MILLIONS of reasons why Firefox only has 3 to 4 percent of the global market share.
And MILLIONS of reasons why Linux only has a 4 to 5 percent of the global desktop market share.
Sure, one could "argue" that 100% of the world's top 500 "supercomputers" in 2024 were running Linux.
But these "supercomputers" are THOUSANDS of dollars and have personnel making way above average salaries to run and maintain.
It is NOT for the "home user", plain and simple.
It is GREAT as a HOBBY.
But so is my Commodore 64 emulator! And about just as "useful".

The main reason is because Bill Gates had the brilliant idea, brilliant for Microsoft, to sell Windows preinstalled on new computers.The-10-Pen wrote: ↑09 Aug 2026, 09:30 And MILLIONS of reasons why Linux only has a 4 to 5 percent of the global desktop market share.
So people got used to that and didn't look elsewhere for an alternative OS. Back in time, Microsoft was never able to make a working OS and had to buy parts, and DOS first, from third party companies here and there.

That "logic" ONLY works if people that get that preinstalled OS *never* try different OS's. They do!
But how many of them do is indeed up for "debate".
But for people like me that *have tried* Linux. Over and over and over and over again. And again. And again.
But KEEP RETURNING TO WINDOWS is *WHY* that market dominance exists !!!
We tried Linux. HATED IT! Keep giving it the benefit of the doubt and KEEP TRYING IT.
But it *FAILS* (for us) and so we keep RETURNING to that "preinstalled" OS.
But I haven't ran a "preinstalled" OS in nearly 20yrs. So explain that one?
Linux SUCKS. Hardware compatibility is why Linux SUCKS. Microsoft just does a million times better at supporting a diverse range of hardware.

I cannot stand either Chromium or Firefox. I only use Chromium occasionally on Android and as a last resort on desktop. But my web use is minimal, I can avoid them most of the time. I thought using Pale Moon was frustrating, but using either Chromium or Firefox on desktop is torture. From font rendering that hurts my eyes to crapping out on videos permanently so that it needs a restart...
The shithole of a workplace, well, the one good thing about it is I'm not pressed to update. Not yet at least. I suppose I'll have to dance with ExplorerPatcher and neutralizing auto-updates again if Win11 becomes mandatory for some reason.
I can already minimize computer use at home if I want. But older stuff still works fine so I guess there isn't a pressing reason to worry at this time. And by the time I'll have to re-consider my software choices, I may not even be alive anymore.

AGREED !!!
But there are two ways to "resolve".
1) Just trust the developer to fix them "for you".
2) Fix them YOURSELF and cut that tie to the developer's timeline.
Userstyles and userscripts are your FRIENDS.
And in the world of "AI" (love it or hate it), *anybody* can quickly become proficient at them!
You first have to isolate the root cause of your font rendering issues.
Bad font rendering literally gives me migraines, so "I feel your pain".
But what causes me "pain" may not be the same as what causes you "pain".
Sometimes (especially for you folks that always compare a desktop rendering to an ANDROID rendering) it can be nothing more than SCREEN WIDTH.
And how your "visual eye to text coordination" is processed by your brain.
To some, rotating their widescreen display from "left to right wide" to "top to bottom high" is all that it takes.
Cuts down on the vertical scrolling width so that the eye coordination can keep track of what line it is on when it ends one line and starts the next.
I personally apply "shadows" to **ALL** text so that "subpixel" BS is "corrected".
The shadow fills in the "half pixel" and the subpixel aliasing is "shifted" or eliminated entirely due to the "shadow".

Here is a "before" and "after" of how I use a SHADOW to effect font readability.
The key is the ORANGE / BROWN pixels of this BLACK FONT.
These are magnified FIVE HUNDRED PERCENT.
When viewed "normal scale" (no magnification), those ORANGE / BROWN pixels come across as BLUR BLUR BLUR.

I'm done wasting time with Chromium and Firefox. They're not for me. The problem with fonts in both lie with Skia, which both enforce. CSS hacks don't work for me. I have neither time, desire or resources to re-write them to use native font rendering. There are other problems, I cannot tolerate their UI in general. And I won't be wasting time with debugging them when I have the option that works better for ME. I don't even have the computer that's being able to build them.
They go against everything I want in a web browser, so I'll pass. I'm fine with Pale Moon and shunning things that don't work with it. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by ignoring most of the bloated and poorly designed web that is out there.

I'm in the same boat. We both need what works for "me".
I've used a vast variety of browsers over the years (many that you've probably never heard of).
For "me", I'm done with the "concept" of using this browser for this, that browser for that, and still a third for whatever.
I really am *DONE* with that bouncing around from one to the next.
And I will *NOT* do "Windows for this" and "Android for that" !!!
One for 80% of my activity, another for 15% of my activity, a third for 5% of my activity.
Then being turned into an insane dog chasing its tail on remember what browser is for what.
Or strolling along in that 80% browser only to have to divert to another.
***DONE***
I really need *ONE* browser for EVERYTHING that I do. And I do mean **EVERYTHING**.
I kind of laugh my arse off with each and every "roytam" or "feodor" release.
I applaud the endeavor, I really do, but I haven't been able to do *EVERYTHING* in *ANY OF THEM* for several years.
And no amount of "weekly updates" is ever going to change that.
So yeah, I have become "reduced to" taking the good with the bad as far as configurability and just sticking with that ONE browser that can do EVERYTHING.
I really am "done" with the infuriation of rolling along and having to switch to a different browser for the sake of a "needed" web site.
Be it research, be it just catching sports scores, be it online banking, be it Amazon, be it YouTube.
I just need ONE FOR ALL.

In the end, I predict/forecast that it is a mute point because there *WILL* come a day that nobody can even access the web sites that promote any alternatives. Anybody that has "tried" to access THIS SITE &/or sites like MSFN know all too well that the "old school" folks that own these types of sites are so "deadset" against things like CLOUDFLARE or ANUBIS that this site and MSFN will be outright "57005" (hex=DEAD) within a few months!

No, they don't. Most people I know are not tech savvy at all, they just buy a new PC at the big store, go back to home and run it like it is.The-10-Pen wrote: ↑09 Aug 2026, 13:14 That "logic" ONLY works if people that get that preinstalled OS *never* try different OS's. They do!
They don't even know that other OSes exist. And that's the big success of Microsoft: for most people a PC = Windows.
You are not the whole world. See above.The-10-Pen wrote: ↑09 Aug 2026, 13:14 But I haven't ran a "preinstalled" OS in nearly 20yrs. So explain that one?
This is not true anymore. For both Linux and Windows. Recent and modern distros of Linux have a good hardware support whilst Windows 11 dropped support for some devices.The-10-Pen wrote: ↑09 Aug 2026, 13:14 Hardware compatibility is why Linux SUCKS. An example from one of my friends who has a basic generic USB mouse which has natively worked for years on Windows 7, 8 and 10. Plug and play. So he plugged in into his brand new Windows 11 PC and...nothing. It doesn't work. We tried it again on Windows 10: no problem. Back to Windows 11: no way. Support dropped for a very generic device. Why ?

Fair enough.
We clearly run in VERY different circles.
The only (and I really do mean *ONLY*) people that I know that do not install non-preinstalled OSs are people that DO NOT EVEN OWN A COMPUTER, they do everything on a MOBILE PHONE and its "preinstalled OS" and "laugh" at us that use "real" computers.

ps - I also include WORK computers in regard to not running "preinstalled" OSs.
Every company I know, be it my employer or my circle of friends or my family, the IT department does the "install" and I don't count that as among "preinstalled".

What kind of mouse is that? It sounds to me like it's doing something "non-standard". And maybe Windows 11 dropped that "non-standard" bit, in the name of code cleanup or something. Just a speculation.

And do you have the make and model number of that mouse? I'm kind of finding it hard to believe, to be honest.
But I also have zero HOME experience with Win11 (my two newest computers came with 11, but I installed Win10 LTSC 2021 on both and never even powered it up with the preinstalled 11).
And I don't classify the WORK Win11 as a "preinstalled" OS, it is controlled and maintained and distributed and anything-everything by IT.
I couldn't really tell you how much (or how little) the IT Dept does to it.
(not enough, in my opinion, why is XBOX and SOLITAIRE and CANDY CRUSH on my WORK computer?)
(just REVEALS how STUPID our IT is, if you ask me! [sure, they disable them from executing, but they shouldn't "be" there AT ALL])
