The tooltips looking like that in 134 is actually intended. This is the native tooltip style of the platform you're on. For dark, non-native tooltips, untick Use native styles in Settings.
Also I'll see if I can make View image a setting you can enable, or have both.

To satisfy my curiosity, what's the point of an ESR version when you can have a more up to date version ?

Well ESR is usually more stable since Mozilla isn't constantly adding new features or changing much outside security fixes.
I use it to have another version of r3dfox separate from my main profile.

In my case, I customize my r3dFox with a Photon like theme (so it basically looks like Quantum). With ESR, I don't have to keep changing the CSS code every time a new release comes out.

Here's a view of my customized r3dFox ESR 128.7.0. You'll really see why I wanted the white text. The coloured tabs almost look like Vivaldi.

First Impressions with r3dfox. Not critiquing, just posting my first-run impressions.
1) My system required me to add msvcp140.dll, vcruntime140.dll, and vcruntime140_1.dll to the same folder containing r3dfox.exe.
I should cite that I'm on Win10. Hope that doesn't invalidate my impressions.
2) I would have preferred (highly, to be honest) that the default theme was "system theme - auto".
This would give those that "like" dark to have dark. And those that "like" light (me!) to have light.
Don't all users (dark and light) already set this at the system level?
3) Any way to get rid of the font shadow/halo effect? Or to match the non-translucent button color with the title bar color?
4) Upon launching three times, but not even visiting any web sites, my DNS log shows over 400 connections to the internet.
Are there any about:config settings to prevent this? Should they be "default" on a first-run profile?

1: You should install VC++ to fix that error
https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/
2: The fork is focused mainly on pre-10, which doesn't have any system theme other than light. I use the dark theme in my browser and the style of my website is dark, so I made it dark to better match. You can always just go back to the system theme.
3: The shadow/halo is meant to make it more readable on systems with Aero, which is the main target for r3dfox. I'll see what I can do about that. I'll probably make it apply with the Aero fog tickbox.
4: I'm not entirely sure how. I've already added a bunch of about:config settings to reduce this. The issue for this is below.

Thanks.
1) I'll just copy the .dll's, I have no use otherwise for VC++ so I only need the .dll's which were very easy to find.
2) Not a fan of dark. Gives me headaches. All have their likes and dislikes.
3) I have a Win7 laptop. I disable Aero and find it rather childish and annoying, to be honest. All have their likes and dislikes.
4) I'll do some digging. My only frame of reference is IceCat (old and outdated) and it has zero of these DNS connections.

3: I really like Aero, but I also sometimes go with other themes. I was using 7 on my main for the longest time in just classic mode. I think my laptop is running Placebo Pure Morning theme rn, main currently is 8 cp style theme.

I've noticed this too, and it was not the case with R3dfox 132 using the same settings:

So on 132, it would detect are we running on Windows Vista/7 and have DWM? If so apply the halo. If not, don't. This meant it also didn't have it on 8+ with an Aero Glass solution. With 133 the code became either it's native titlebar or it's not native titlebar instead of Windows versions. So it's just always applied when using native titlebar with DWM.
I'm going to release a new 134, it doesn't have this fixed just yet, that will be next 134 release.

Well that's the menu bar, not the menus themselves. This is also post-8 and with DWM.Duke wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025, 21:27Well, I'm on Windows 8.1 and with R3dfox 134.0.3-1 I have the halo:https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/releases/tag/v134.0.3-1 wrote: Menus are fixed on pre-8 without DWM.

Colored or outlined tabs?
Is this forum only for building r3dFox, or can I use it for help after downloading the program?
If I can get help, here's my problem:
I recently started using r3dFox, and I usually have 8-10 tabs open. I need some way of distinguishing tabs quickly, as I work at many different sites. There are 10 extensions that supposedly color the tabs in different colors, and none of them work. The best I've gotten is a white current tab. In Waterfox I had an extension called Colorful Tabs, but I've replaced Waterfox with r3dFox.
Is there a userchrome.css code I can use to either color the tabs differently or at least make an outline of each tab?

Colorful Tabs is working for me.
Also, don't forget that r3dfox uses "container tabs", that probably serves your needs without the need for adding Colorful Tabs.

Colorful tabs isn't on the Firefox extension site anymore, as it's considered"legacy." I've tried 10 others that don't work.The-10-Pen wrote: ↑01 Mar 2025, 22:48 Colorful Tabs is working for me.

What does "Container tabs do?" I found "container tab groups" and "container sidebar."
I didn't receive an email notifying me of this reply.

r3dfox, a modern Firefox based web browser for Windows Vista, 7, and 8!
R3dfox v135.0.1-1-hotfix for Vista+ released:
https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/releases/tag/v135.0.1-1-hotfix
r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous 135.0.1 build:
Improved Windows Modern mode.
Windows Modern mode is no longer completely broken in some browser and OS themes.
Menubar text glow option added to settings.
Slight translucency in r3dfox theme brought back. (No idea why I removed it in the first place)
Native menu arrows show on native menu lists now.
Fixed excess context menu padding, especially in classic theme.
R3dfox v128.8.0-hotfix for Vista+ released:
https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/releases/tag/v128.8.0-hotfix
Changes ported over from later releases:
View Image is now toggleable in settings (Defaults to Open image in new tab)
Improved theme code from 133+ brought over:
Implemented Windows Modern mode from 133+. (This means old 10 override for modern UI no longer works)
This means menubar text glow occurs on all platforms on non-modern mode, so menubar text glow option added to settings.
Menu arrows show on non-native menu lists now (and native menu lists still show their arrows)
Slight translucency in r3dfox theme brought back. (No idea why I removed it in the first place)
Native controls commits have new name, so they may be reset if you changed them.
Stock 115 ESR style fog implemented behind widget.windows-style.show-fog preference.
Useless Windows8WindowFrameColor.sys.mjs removed. Supposedly did fix an issue many years ago, but does nothing as of 115 and r3dfox and was removed in 133.

Rendering of fonts is different between v132 and v135, width is not the same and there is some 'bold' effect with v135.

I copy the workaround from this post here because Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking these Reddit embedded posts:
The default font rendering on Windows was changed.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1924346#c2
You can re-enable the old one via about:config.
Set "gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.force_gdi_classic_for_families" to "Arial,Consolas,Courier New,Microsoft Sans Serif,Segoe UI,Tahoma,Trebuchet MS,Verdana"
and "gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.force_gdi_classic_max_size" to 15.
Then restart the browser.
