The spreadsheet uses bit manipulation functions unknown to Excel 2007. Like, bruh, it's 2025, upgrade that old shit. Things like that are just waste of everyone's time.
This means that the docx file created by a newer Office version was
not compatible with the docx standard which was defined with 2007.
If Microsoft wants to make a new standard they by definition should create a new one like doc
y, this however is probably unnecessary as it hasn't changed so much since
So an ideal solution would be to include something like a
polyfill in the new format file to allow it to run under Office 2007 or at the very least provide a warning to the user that this particular feature in not supported on this version of Office and may not work correctly.
You can't expect casual people to differentiate one docx file from another (often they don't even know which version of Office hey have). Microsoft has traditionally been very good about backwards compatibility and introducing incompatibilities like this one will likely put them (or your team in this case

in a bad light)
Backwards compatibility has been one of the key advantages and one of the main success reasons of Windows vs Linux, cause only tech-savvy people can keep up with which new version they should be running to stay compatible with some docx.
And there are even some who deliberately don't
